I'm an illustrator and an author, a critter-lover and a coffee addict.
My illustrated memoir, Once Upon a Flock, is the true and riveting tale of a small backyard flock including Lucy, the special needs hen and Wicked Lil' White. Full of drama and suspense, the book is enjoyed by critter-lovers aged 9 to 99.
I tailor my talks to meet the interests of the particular audiences. Here are a few topics:
It's true! Chickens share a very close DNA with T-Rex. Recent discoveries show that many dinosaurs had feathers. While some dinosaurs evolved to enormous sizes, the feathered ones got smaller over time. By observing chickens: their feet, beaks, feathers and faces, one can see the connection to their dino-ancestors. By observing their behavior, one can imagine how dinosaurs might have lived, hunted and socialized. I'll present lots of hands-on materials, I'll answer questions and, of course, I'll teach you how to draw a chicken!
In which I launch directly into gripping tales of my soulful flock. You'll be on the edge of your seat when you hear stories of Lucy the special-needs hen, her best friend Hatsy, Lil'White the wicked Buff Orpington. I'll tell a tale of surprises, of friendship, compassion, loss, birth, and Lucy's impressive strength.
...and, of course, I'll teach you how to draw a chicken!
