I love to talk about the things I love!
My talks last about an hour. I can gear my topics toward children as well as adults. I bring my own easel and drawing materials for myself and for my audience. Sometimes I even bring a chicken!
Below are three topics to choose from:
In which I launch directly into gripping tales of my soulful flock. I’ll relate vignettes from my book, Once Upon a Flock, and from my blog, Scratch and Peck. You’ll be on the edge of your seat when you hear these stories of Lucy the special-needs hen; Hatsy, her best friend; and Lil’White, the sociopathic Buff Orpington. Then there’s Marky the terrier and Roosterman the accidental rooster… and, of course, I’ll teach you how to draw a chicken!
• How to Draw a Chicken …. and all sorts of other critters!
This is my art-talk! Bring your own journal or sketchbook and let a seasoned illustrator show you some tricks that will change the way you look at your world! In addition, I’ll reveal a bit about what I do as a professional illustrator working for American Girl, Birds and Blooms and other clients, and I’ll show you my process as well as my sketchbooks. Geared toward adults as well as kids 8 and up.
(I provide clipboards, paper and pencils for the audience to draw along.)
It’s true! Chickens share a very close DNA with T-Rex. This is my general and all-encompassing chicken-talk. Learn all about backyard chickens — or at least as much as we can squeeze into an hour! I’ll talk about the history of chickens, chicken breeds, chicks, coops, eggs, planning and maintaining a healthy happy flock and more. I’ll answer questions and, of course, will teach you how to draw chickens!
